Role

  • Authoring 5 Mission Operation Document (MOD) sections for P093 via technical research comparisons to P982 to create a baseline for flight-certified operational procedures

  • Owned and released 2 Mathematical Algorithm Requirement (MAR) documents that are critical software architecture drivers for system command and telemetry to meet ARIS P093 CDA milestones

  • Coordinated efforts on all document approvals through NG subject matter experts, subcontractors, and system operators

  • Researched and developed a live Human Control Interface (HCI) block diagram design for P093 that serves to prevent system misconfiguration that may result in mission downtime and/or cause hardware damage

  • Re-configured the HCI top-level and second-level pages based on P093 system developments, presented changes to 3 stakeholder teams, and released updates via the Master Command and Telemetry Database (MCTDb)

Description

The USC Liquid Propulsion Laboratory (LPL) is a fully student-run team on a mission to design, manufacture, build, test, and validate liquid propulsion technology. We strive to provide students with valuable experience by operating at a start-up / industry-level mentality. 

Role

  • Led 8 engineers from concept of the largest student-built additively manufactured liquid rocket engine to static fire in under 2 years

  • Managed task assignments, project schedule, and budgetary needs for engine development (approx. $30,000)

  • Collaborated with EOS and The Aerospace Corporation for printing and post-processing engine components (saved approx. $50,000)

  • Negotiated and contracted a statement of work (SOW) between USC and UCSD to static fire the Balerion Development Engine on the UCSD Colossus Test Stand

Description

The USC Liquid Propulsion Laboratory (LPL) is a fully student-run team on a mission to design, manufacture, build, test, and validate liquid propulsion technology. We strive to provide students with valuable experience by operating at a start-up / industry-level mentality. 

Role

  • Utilized “Design for Additive” methodologies to design and print a 5 part engine assembly out of Inconel 718 via direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) to employ regenerative cooling, film cooling, and a modular pintle design for rapid prototyping

  • Drafted technical drawings (both printed and machined) for each engine component using GD&T (ASME Y14.5-2009) and coordinated critical design requirements to EOS subcontractor and USC machine shop

  • Conducted critical design reviews (PDR/CDR) for alumni and industry professionals to gather feedback for design refinement

  • Established a database on Google Drive to organize, timestamp, and revision control critical project files such as NX CAD models, manufacturing drawings, engine test data, MATLAB codes, media, etc.

Test Engineer 

September 2017 - December 2019

Role

  • Assembled and characterized a mobile test stand capable of static firing Jet-A/GOX rocket engines

  • Reviewed feed system schematics (P&ID), parts (valves, sensors, fittings, etc.), and operational procedures for testing

  • Supported proof, leak, cold flow, and static fire testing campaigns (i.e. safety officer, DAQ operator, hardware assembly, test setup)

  • Gained hands-on experience with feed system assembly via component installation, tube swaging/bending, sensor line integration, and OX cleaning with reference to NASA MSFC-SPEC-164 standards

Description

QuEST Global is an outsourcing firm that provides engineering services to various companies facing challenges during there product lifecycle. My division worked for Pratt & Whitney to conduct FEA analysis on parts for the F119 and F135 jet engines. This analysis was used to create standards that determined if parts with defects such as nicks, dents, or scratches could be refurbished or needed replacement.

  • Worked on various subsections of the Pratt and Whitney (P&W) F135 and F119 military jet engines

My division worked on the propulsion system for the Dragon Capsules that are used to transport cargo and one-day crew to the International Space Station.
